Obi Restaurant is a Japanese restaurant at 14 Long Street in Cape Town's CBD, serving sushi, tempura and ramen. It opened in 2016, founded by Japanese chef Hatsushiro Muraoka, known affectionately as Papa San, together with his long-time friend and chef Ben Bettendorf.
The restaurant was built around their shared passion for authentic Japanese food and warm hospitality, with a focus on beautifully simple sushi, ramen and traditional Japanese flavours. Dishes on the menu include tempura rolls, sushi and sashimi combinations, prawn tempura and a bento box lunch special. The restaurant quickly built a loyal following in Cape Town, and guests can book online or order ahead. It suits diners who want simple, well-made Japanese food on Long Street.
