Maharajah is an Indian restaurant group that began in 1979 on the idea of offering a meal worthy of its name at a modest price, using traditional Indian flavours and South African Indian cooking techniques. More than 40 years on, the restaurant is still run by the same family and still serves meals true to that heritage.
The group has two Cape Town locations: the original branch in Tamboerskloof, tucked below Table Mountain with a warm, vibrant dining room, and the newer Maharajah Eatery in the Rondebosch and Rosebank area, which offers a more laid-back, modern approach to the same menu. Reviewers praise the lamb curry on the bone and say the portions are generous enough to share.
It suits groups who want to share several dishes, and diners looking for a long-standing Cape Town Indian restaurant with a modern, relaxed branch nearby.
