Martins Bakery

Martins Bakery is a bakery, deli and coffee shop at 43 Main Road in Diep River, Cape Town, established by Firmino Martins in 1970 as a local convenience store then known as Steurhof Cafe. His successor John Martins followed in his father's footsteps and opened the bakery division in 1983, after leaving his job as a bank manager to follow his passion, and he now runs it with his wife.

The European-style bakery offers healthy and homemade goods, including gluten-free, wheat-free, sugar-free and banting products, alongside farm-style breakfasts and lunches and a large selection of cakes. It bakes non-commercial, homemade breads with no preservatives, using traditional techniques such as sourdough. It suits health-conscious customers in the southern suburbs who want fresh baking and a relaxed deli menu.
