Seebamboes is an intimate restaurant on the mezzanine above Galjoen on Harrington Street in District Six, a collaboration between two chef-restaurateurs and a second chef and artist. The name comes from the kelp native to the Great African Seaforest, and the menu reimagines surf and turf with playful, nostalgic dishes built around South African ingredients.
Dishes include kelp spaghetti with exotic mushrooms and Wagyu brisket, and snoek mousse paired with biltong powder and dune spinach, each reflecting a focus on sustainability and local produce. The space seats just 16 diners among high tables and reclaimed materials, with a window framing Table Mountain, and the menu changes with the seasons.
Desserts lean nostalgic too, with reinvented ice-cream sandwiches and a twist on Eskimo pies. It suits diners who want a small, inventive tasting-style meal that treats South African surf and turf as a creative starting point.
