Gary's Surf School

Gary's Surf School is a surf school on Muizenberg's beachfront, established in 1989 and the first surf school in South Africa, with more than 35 years of experience teaching people to surf. Lesson times are set by the tides, and the school backs its teaching with a guarantee: stand up on your first lesson, or get your money back.

The school rents boards and wetsuits for beginners and intermediates, and lessons range from single sessions to multi-day packages with unlimited gear and a dedicated instructor for more personalised coaching. It operates seven days a week, 362 days a year, on Muizenberg beachfront. It suits complete beginners as well as improving surfers looking for coached practice time.
