Simon's Town Museum collects and exhibits the cultural history of Simon's Town, covering the town's long connections with the Dutch East India Company, the Royal Navy and the forced removals that reshaped the community under apartheid. The museum is housed in The Residency, a building raised in 1777 as a winter residence for the Dutch East India Company's Governor, giving the collection a historic home that is itself part of the story it tells.
The museum was established in 1977 and moved into The Residency in 1982, and alongside its permanent displays it offers school and group tours as well as presentations for visiting parties.
Based on Court Road in Simon's Town, the museum suits visitors, tourists, schoolchildren, researchers and anyone curious about the naval, colonial and social history that shaped this corner of the Cape Peninsula.
